Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education helps to give pupils the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy independent lives and to become informed, active and responsible citizens. Circle Time is an integral part of PSHE teaching when children are able to express their views and opinions or concerns they may have. Physical and Mental Health and Well-being, Safeguarding and E-Safety, Citizenship, Drugs Education and Sex and Relationship Education are all part of the PSHE curriculum, as are British Values. St John’s is committed to providing high quality PSHE provision, having recently been one of the first schools in North Somerset to have been awarded the Active Healthy Schools Award (September 2018).

At St John’s we use the JIGSAW resource as the basis for our PSHE curriculum. This whole school mindful approach has six strands, one for each school term. These are:
Term 1 – Being Me in My World
Term 2 – Celebrating Difference
Term 3 – Dreams and Goals
Term 4 – Healthy Me
Term 5 – Relationships
Term 6 – Changing Me

Each class has timetabled a weekly PSHE lesson that incorporates social skills, circle time and a “calm me” session when mindfulness strategies are explicitly taught.
Further details about the JIGSAW approach and its themes can be found here:
